Data sources & licensing

The production vocabulary architecture uses STEPBible TBESG/TAGNT and Open Scriptures GreekResources/LxxLemmas. Attribution is centralized here rather than repeated on every generated puzzle. No endorsement by those projects is implied.

STEP Bible: lexical and tagging data from STEPBible-Data, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Adaptations include Unicode normalization, corpus indexing, filtering, collision handling, frequency metadata and puzzle-specific derived fields.

Open Scriptures: Septuagint lemma resources from GreekResources, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Adaptations include aggregation, normalization, book/frequency indexing and puzzle-specific derived fields.

The plugin ships a validated source-backed production corpus. The bundled 800-lemma fallback remains only as an explicitly incomplete fail-closed emergency corpus if the production runtime assets do not pass integrity validation.

Canonical source URLs and build provenance are recorded in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md and assets/data/source-manifest.json.

Words needing practice

Greek Reading Lab

Learn the 24 Greek letters, connect capitals with minuscules, and recognize the marks you will encounter in Biblical Greek.

Book Readiness

Browser-local

Choose a biblical book or indexed chapter to estimate how much of its vocabulary you have encountered and how much of its word-occurrence coverage is already Strong in this browser. This is a vocabulary-readiness estimate, not a claim that grammar or syntax has been mastered.

No active reading goal in this browser.

Reading notes

Sigma: σ is used within a word and ς at the end. The puzzle grid normalizes both to the same letter for matching.

Breathings: a rough breathing (῾) conventionally marks initial h; a smooth breathing (᾿) does not.

Accents: acute, grave and circumflex marks belong to the printed word even though the puzzle grid removes them for clean letter matching.

Other marks: diaeresis separates adjacent vowels; an iota subscript is written beneath certain long vowels in traditional polytonic spelling.

Source-backed Morphology Lab

Practice with inflected forms that actually occur in the validated New Testament morphology index. The exact TAGNT source parsing code is preserved and shown after each answer; the Wordsearch does not invent forms or grammatical parses.

NT ↔ LXX Comparative Vocabulary Lab

Compare lexical distribution using source-backed NT and Septuagint occurrence rates. Rates are normalized per 10,000 corpus tokens so the different corpus sizes are not compared by raw counts alone.

Comparison is calculated entirely in this browser from the validated production corpus. It does not alter shared Daily puzzles.

Vocabulary Fluency Lab

Build faster Biblical Greek recognition with source-backed vocabulary. Current Puzzle Setup filters can be inherited, or you can target due, trouble, saved, or Study Set vocabulary. Timing is informational only; there is no countdown.

Fluency history and mastery updates remain browser-local. This practice never changes shared Daily puzzle identity.
