Data sources & licensing

The production vocabulary architecture uses STEPBible TBESG/TAGNT and Open Scriptures GreekResources/LxxLemmas. Attribution is centralized here rather than repeated on every generated puzzle. No endorsement by those projects is implied.

STEP Bible: lexical and tagging data from STEPBible-Data, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Adaptations include Unicode normalization, corpus indexing, filtering, collision handling, frequency metadata and puzzle-specific derived fields.

Open Scriptures: Septuagint lemma resources from GreekResources, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Adaptations include aggregation, normalization, book/frequency indexing and puzzle-specific derived fields.

The plugin ships a validated source-backed production corpus. The bundled 800-lemma fallback remains only as an explicitly incomplete fail-closed emergency corpus if the production runtime assets do not pass integrity validation.

Canonical source URLs and build provenance are recorded in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md and assets/data/source-manifest.json.

Saved Biblical Greek vocabulary

Save words while you play and return to them for review. This notebook is stored only in this browser.

Custom Biblical Greek Study Set

Biblical Greek Vocabulary Explorer

Search every lexical record currently loaded by the Wordsearch. The complete production corpus will appear here automatically once its validation gate passes.

Vocabulary Review Center

Review vocabulary with a lightweight spaced-repetition schedule stored only in this browser. Due words are prioritized, followed by learning and saved vocabulary.

Your Biblical Greek Learning Path

Progress is based on vocabulary you have encountered and recalled in this browser. Finding a word counts as exposure; recall reviews build mastery.

Words needing practice

Greek Reading Lab

Learn the 24 Greek letters, connect capitals with minuscules, and recognize the marks you will encounter in Biblical Greek.

Book Readiness

Browser-local

Choose a biblical book or indexed chapter to estimate how much of its vocabulary you have encountered and how much of its word-occurrence coverage is already Strong in this browser. This is a vocabulary-readiness estimate, not a claim that grammar or syntax has been mastered.

No active reading goal in this browser.

Reading notes

Sigma: σ is used within a word and ς at the end. The puzzle grid normalizes both to the same letter for matching.

Breathings: a rough breathing (῾) conventionally marks initial h; a smooth breathing (᾿) does not.

Accents: acute, grave and circumflex marks belong to the printed word even though the puzzle grid removes them for clean letter matching.

Other marks: diaeresis separates adjacent vowels; an iota subscript is written beneath certain long vowels in traditional polytonic spelling.

Alphabet check

Source-backed Morphology Lab

Practice with inflected forms that actually occur in the validated New Testament morphology index. The exact TAGNT source parsing code is preserved and shown after each answer; the Wordsearch does not invent forms or grammatical parses.

Weak-area campaign

No active weak-area campaign.

NT ↔ LXX Comparative Vocabulary Lab

Compare lexical distribution using source-backed NT and Septuagint occurrence rates. Rates are normalized per 10,000 corpus tokens so the different corpus sizes are not compared by raw counts alone.

Comparison is calculated entirely in this browser from the validated production corpus. It does not alter shared Daily puzzles.

Vocabulary Fluency Lab

Build faster Biblical Greek recognition with source-backed vocabulary. Current Puzzle Setup filters can be inherited, or you can target due, trouble, saved, or Study Set vocabulary. Timing is informational only; there is no countdown.

Fluency history and mastery updates remain browser-local. This practice never changes shared Daily puzzle identity.

A New Biblical Greek Vocabulary Challenge Each Day

Learning Biblical Greek is easier to sustain when study becomes a regular habit rather than an occasional intensive session. The Daily Wordsearch provides a simple reason to encounter Greek vocabulary every day.

The Daily challenge is deterministic for the site’s date and configured challenge. It is intentionally separated from your private mastery history, Saved Words, Study Set and personalized vocabulary rotation so that the shared puzzle remains a shared challenge.

Learn the Words After You Find Them

Finishing the grid does not have to be the end of the session. After completing the Wordsearch, use the vocabulary review and active-recall tools to test whether you can still recognize the words without relying on their position in the puzzle.

Words that require more work can enter your browser-local learning record and later return through Review Center, Vocabulary Fluency and other personalized practice tools.

Build a Biblical Greek Study Habit

A short daily session can reinforce Greek letter recognition, lexical familiarity and spelling patterns without requiring a long block of study time. Beginners may concentrate simply on recognizing the Greek forms. Intermediate students can pay closer attention to meanings and grammatical categories. Advanced learners can use the Daily challenge as a warm-up before reading the Greek New Testament or Septuagint.

Daily Challenge and Personal Study Serve Different Purposes

The Daily challenge is designed to remain shared and reproducible. Personalized practice belongs in the main Biblical Greek Wordsearch, where you can choose books, chapters, frequency ranges, grammatical categories, weak vocabulary, Saved Words and other learning priorities.

This separation means your private study history does not secretly change what today’s Daily challenge means for another visitor.

Missed a Day?

Use the Daily Archive controls available in the game to revisit supported previous Daily challenges. Archived puzzles remain tied to their original deterministic challenge identity rather than being regenerated from your current personal learning state.

What Should I Do After the Daily Wordsearch?

  1. Finish today’s Greek Wordsearch.
  2. Review the vocabulary immediately after solving.
  3. Use Recall This Puzzle to test active memory.
  4. Save unfamiliar or important words.
  5. Open Review Center or Vocabulary Fluency if you want a longer session.
  6. Return the next day for another Daily challenge.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Daily Greek Wordsearch

Is today’s puzzle the same for everyone?

The Daily mode is designed around a shared deterministic challenge rather than each visitor’s personal mastery state. Your private learning history therefore does not redefine the shared Daily puzzle.

Does the Daily puzzle use my Study Set?

No. Custom Study Sets and other personalized pools are deliberately kept separate from shared Daily puzzle identity.

Does completing the Daily Wordsearch help my learning history?

Your local browser can still record vocabulary exposure and learning progress while keeping that private state separate from the shared challenge itself.

Can I practise much more than the Daily puzzle?

Yes. The main Biblical Greek Wordsearch provides much deeper filtering and study tools, including New Testament and Septuagint selection, Book and Chapter vocabulary, Reading Preparation, Morphology, NT/LXX comparison and Vocabulary Fluency.
